We spend so much time in our homes. We sleep, eat, entertain, and relax at home. And now, many of us work at home. This is why it’s important to make our spaces a retreat of comfort and happiness.
As an interior decorator, I help clients make positive changes in their homes. Changes can be small and include décor additions or furniture and layout updates. Or changes can be more substantial. These typically include color and remodeling consultations. The goal of any project is to make your home a happier place! Here are three ways to do that:
Emotional Well-Being; How Home Décor Affects Happiness
The way we design and style our homes can have a significant impact on our well-being. When we consider factors like layout, texture, color, and style, we can make significant changes to the way we feel.
A very basic example of this is when you change your bed with fresh sheets. The texture and feeling of clean sheets affects how you feel when you climb into bed at night. Another example of this is when you wrap up in your favorite blanket on the couch. These small factors change the way you feel.
Less Clutter, Less Stress
A crowded home equals a crowded mind. Some studies show that clutter causes stress. Chances are you’ve experienced this at home when the house is a mess and you do not feel content until it is tidy. Interior decorating not only makes your space more beautiful and useful it can also help you see what pieces you love and those that you don’t need any longer.
Let Your Home Be a Reflection of You
If you love neutrals and bright light, make that a priority. If you have a passion for vintage finds or darker colors, incorporate that into your updates. Always gauge your choices on whether they make you happy. Because home décor affects happiness, I empower my clients to let their style shine through. It's your home after all, and you are the one living in it!
